Stills from Motive MoCap system during Deep Dancing recordings
Deep Dancing is a collaborative project between Julien Mercier and Irini Kalaitzidi.
It is a spatial sound synthesis experiment developed at Zhdk's Immersive Arts Space during a residency at the Institute for Computer Music and Sound Technology (ICST), with additional developments achieved during a stay at La Becque in 2020.
With this research project, Irini and Julien built a musical instrument situated within the whole human body. The coordinates of the body turned into intelligent information, suitable for interaction with a soundscape coded in Max/MSP. Their intention was to add one more cognitive ability to the viewer: apart from just seeing the body move, they can also perceive its moving qualities through listening.
